Antique Islamic Ring with Early Seal

The bright red jasper intaglio seal is intricately engraved in angular Kufic script with forked and wedge-shaped terminals which dates the seal to the 9th-12th centuries (Porter, 2011). The engraving translates to a name: ‘Basheer Khan bin Shahr Khan Lillah’.

The oval intaglio with smooth bevelled edges and a recessed centre is set within a later silver mount engraved with crosshatched detailing, probably dating to 19th century.

The ring weighs 8.12g silver, the stone measures 13mm x 10mm, the ring is unmarked but tests as high-grade silver.

イスラムのリングは、セルジューク朝、ティムール朝、サファヴィー朝など多くの王朝にわたります。11〜13世紀のセルジューク朝の金細工師は特に卓越しており、黒い象嵌であるニエロや繊細な粒金細工を施して銀と金を加工しました。カーネリアン、アゲート、ガーネット、ラピスラズリが好まれ、優美なクーフィー体やナスフ体の文字が刻まれることも多くありました。一点一点が、身に着けられる小さな歴史のかけらです。
