Vintage French 'Auvergne' Bracelet

This remarkable mid-20th-century French bracelet, crafted around 1950, showcases the distinctive beauty of ‘Pierre d’Auvergne’—a style of gemstone setting that originated in the Auvergne region, specifically in the town of Aurillac. The heavy 18K bracelet is set with yellow citrines, enhanced by cherry red foil underneath, creating a captivating play of colours that shifts with the angle of light. This unique method was used to alter the colour and luminosity of stones, giving them a rich glow in various lighting.

Each citrine is mounted in combed or teethed closed-back settings with a domed underside, adding to the bracelet’s robust construction. Crafted in 18K gold, the piece bears the French ‘eagle head’ hallmark, ensuring its authenticity and high-quality gold content. The bracelet weighs a substantial 26.51 grams, giving it a satisfying heft on the wrist.

The bracelet measures 18.5cm in total and features a hidden box clasp with a safety chain for added security. A maker’s mark is also present, adding to the piece’s provenance and charm—a true reflection of French craftsmanship and regional artistry.
