Art Deco Locket Necklace

This Art Deco-era locket, crafted around 1920, showcases the period's fascination with innovative materials and geometric forms. Constructed from 9K gold with palladium accents, it combines precious metals in a unique manner. Palladium, a lustrous silver-white metal, became popular in jewellery making during the early 20th century due to its strength and resistance to tarnish. However, its use declined after World War II as it became increasingly scarce and expensive.

The locket opens vertically to reveal compartments lined with vivid orange and yellow fabric under glass, providing a striking backdrop for cherished keepsakes, photos, or other mementos. The piece measures 2cm by 2cm, compact yet perfect for holding personal treasures close.

Its understated yet elegant design features a stamped '9ct & Pall' mark, a rare hallmark reflecting its material composition. Paired with a 44cm (17 inch) 9K gold trace chain, this locket necklace weighs 4.68 grams in total. The necklace remains in superb condition, despite its significant age.
