Antique Victorian 18K Gold Carved Coral Rose Floral Ring
This beautifully crafted piece dates to the late 19th century. It is set with a rare carved piece of deep-sea mediterranean corallium rubrum (coral). This stone carving would typically have been brought back by a young wealthy gentleman on the Italian leg of the grand tour to later be tuned into jewellery for a partner or family member. The coral is carved into the shape of a rose, a symbol of love. It is bezel set in a smooth egg cup shaped bezel which leads to plain band crafted in 18K gold.
UK size J, US size 4 1/2
1.77g , French 18K gold hallmarked, coral measures 8mm across and protrudes 5mm from the bezel.
