Antique Grim Reaper Signet

A cool antique 18K gold signet ring made in The gold ring itself dates from the early 20th century, whilst the bezel of the ring features an enamelled ‘grim reaper’ motif which has been added much more recently.

The Grim Reaper is a personification of death, typically depicted as a hooded figure with a skeletal form carrying a scythe or sword. The image originates from medieval Europe, where death was often depicted as a skeletal figure due to high mortality rates from wars and plagues. Symbolically, the Grim Reaper is associated with memento mori, a Latin phrase that means "remember you must die”. A rather stark reminder for the wearer to cherish each day and live life to the fullest because tomorrow is never guaranteed.

The ring weighs 2.83 grams and is hallmarked and tested for 18K gold.

The rectangular face of the ring measures 9 x 8mm, whilst the band measures 2mm across.
