A Georgian drop pendant of the Regency period, c.1830, set with foiled almandine garnets in rose gold.Georgian jewellers set garnets over foil in closed backs to deepen their colour, and the effect here is a rich, glowing red with a hint of purple. Jewels like this were made for candlelight, and few survive as complete and as fresh as this one.A large garnet sits in an enamelled frame, and below it hangs a fine double chain carrying a swag of three further garnets. The stones are flat, table-cut cushions, typical of the period.The mount is unmarked and tests as 9K gold, with a soft rosy tone.Light and easy to wear, it hangs beautifully on a fine chain.Details: c.1830; English; foiled almandine garnets; enamel; rose gold testing 9K, unmarked; main stone 1.5 cm diameter; 4 cm long overall; 3.16g.Condition: Very good for its age. Under a loupe there is slight wear to the facet edges.
