A French Belle Époque ring, c.1910, set with a vivid opal between rose-cut diamond shoulders.The opal shows a crisp, flashing play of colour in greens and blues. It is held in a fine millegrain-beaded rim, a detail typical of the years around 1900 to 1910, when jewellers favoured light, lace-like settings.The cabochon measures about 10 × 8 × 3 mm, approx. 1.3 carats. On each shoulder a rose-cut diamond is set in platinum, while the rest of the ring is 18K gold. It carries the French owl mark for 18K gold and a French platinum mark.Elegant and unusual, it would make a beautiful alternative engagement ring.Details: c.1910; France; 18K gold and platinum (French marks); opal cabochon approx. 10 × 8 × 3 mm, approx. 1.3 ct; rose-cut diamonds; front 1.6 cm; band 0.15 cm at the back; 3.14g; UK M, US 6¼.Condition: Very good
