An unusual French Art Deco cluster ring, dating to around 1920, crafted in 18K gold with platinum-topped diamond settings. The design is highly geometric, built around a central natural button pearl and four triangular-cut rubies arranged in a compass-like cross. Around this sits a circular border of rose-cut diamonds, set in platinum with fine millegrain detail, giving the ring a bright silver-white outline against the warmer gold construction beneath.The composition is very much of the Art Deco period, where jewellers often favoured sharp geometry, symmetry and strong contrast between materials. The triangular rubies are particularly effective here, their vivid pinkish-red colour giving the ring a more graphic and unusual character than a conventional floral cluster.The stones are all open-backed, allowing light through the rubies and making the ring easier to clean than earlier closed-back examples.
