    • An antique Italian gold sapphire ring, dating to the late 19th century, circa 1890. Designed in a signet-style form, the ring is set with a substantial natural sapphire of approximately 2 carats, held in a bezel setting.

The sapphire has a deep blue body colour with attractive teal undertones, giving the stone a slightly unusual character. Its colour shifts subtly across the face, with darker inky areas and flashes of greenish-blue visible in certain light.

The gold mount has a broad, softly rounded front which tapers towards the back of the band. The shoulders retain faded floral and star engravings, now softened through age and wear, giving the ring a pleasing antique surface rather than an overly polished finish. This style sits well within late 19th-century Italian jewellery, where signet-form rings were often adapted to hold coloured stones rather than engraved seals.

The ring is a UK size Q / US size 8 and weighs 6.92 grams, giving it a solid and comfortable presence on the hand.

Condition is good and wearable. The ring and sapphire are secure, with general surface wear to the gold consistent with age. The sapphire shows some wear to the facet junctions, visible under close inspection, but there are no major chips. The stone facets could be repolished by a bench jeweller very easily. The floral engraving to the shoulders is partially worn, as expected for a ring of this period.

A characterful antique Italian sapphire ring, combining a substantial natural blue sapphire, warm gold mount and softened late Victorian-era engraving.
