A superb example of early 20th-century French jewellery, this Art Deco period ring truly embodies the elegance and subtle symbolism of the jewels from this era. Crafted in platinum throughout, the ring showcases openwork design, delicately set with diamonds and a central cultured pearl. At first glance, the shape might resembles an hourglass. However, upon closer inspection the design shows two lotus flowers facing outwards. This motif was particularly popular in the mid-1920’s, following the wave of Egyptomania that washed over Europe and America after the discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb in 1922.
At the centre of the ring lies a 4mm cultured pearl, its lustrous surface providing a soft contrast against the sparkle of surrounding diamonds. The diamond-studded face of the ring measures 18mm by 13mm, with an array of rose-cut diamonds accented by two slightly larger old mine cuts (1.2cts in total). The two larger diamonds display a very subtle yellowish hue and feature characteristic open culets, suggesting they may have been repurposed from earlier 19th-century pieces, adding a unique historical dimension to the ring.
Size and Condition: The ring is a UK size K 1/2 / US size 5.5. It has a total weight of 4.68 grams, with a band measuring 1.5mm across at the back.
