    • A rare and characterful late 18th-century French regionalist ring, set with three deep red Perpignan garnets in a rosy 18K gold and silver mount. Made in the French provinces around 1790, during the Revolutionary period, this ring beautifully embodies the distinct regional jewellery traditions of southern France.

      The central garnet, an oval Perpignan stone of exceptional deep wine-red colour, is flanked by two rose-cut garnets, a garnet cut most commonly seen in 18th and 19th century French jewellery. Beneath each gem lies a hand-applied foil backing, a hallmark of Georgian gem-setting, designed to enhance luminosity and create a subtle inner glow when seen by candlelight.

      Perpignan garnets were mined in the French Catalan mountains from the 17th century onwards and were considered France’s most prized native gemstone. Beyond their beauty, they carried symbolic meaning - associated with vitality, passion, and emotional balance - and became a proud emblem of local identity in the southern regions of Languedoc and Roussillon.

      This example displays all the features of high-quality 18th-century craftsmanship: a concave underside engraved with radiating lines, forked shoulders with rose-cut garnets, and delicate C-scrolls where the shoulders meet the head.
