A signet ring crafted in 18K gold, hallmarked in Birmingham, England in 1956.

This vintage piece is set with a finely carved bloodstone intaglio, depicting a family crest of a huntsman blowing a horn—a unusual motif adopted by various families including those with the ‘Clark’ surname. The crest would have formed the uppermost part of a family coat of arms, and it is commonly displayed alone on smaller jewellery items.

The bloodstone intaglio, engraved in negative, would have served as a personal seal, imprinting the family crest onto wax for sealing important documents. The heliotrope bloodstone showcases striking red speckles against a deep green background, providing a high contrast that accentuates its detail. Bloodstone, historically known as the "stone of courage," was worn by warriors for protection and to symbolise strength in battle; it’s also the birthstone for March.

The ring, weighing 7.7 grams, is a UK size T (US size 9.5). The intaglio measures 10mm by 12mm, while the band tapers to 3mm at the back, ensuring a comfortable fit. A classic example of mid-century craftsmanship combined with a timeless symbol of heritage.
