    • A beautiful example of French provincial jewellery, this Georgian-era rivière necklace was crafted in the city of Arles, Provence, circa 1830. Made in 18K gold and silver, it features ten foil-backed rose-cut diamonds set in deeply crimped, closed-back silver settings—designed to catch the light with maximum effect.
The necklace is typical of Arlesian craftsmanship, and was likely worn as a formal evening piece. Its double-layer gold chain and striking floral drop motif add both drama and charm. The central pendant drop measures 4cm in length, while the largest rose-cut diamond spreads to approximately 8mm in diameter.
The 38cm (15 inch) length fits close to the neck, making it ideal as a choker-style necklace. It fastens with a beautifully engraved box clasp and weighs 17.13 grams in total.
Stamped with a French horse head hallmark (indicates it was made outside of Paris, between 1838–1847) and a maker’s lozenge, confirming its 18K gold purity.
A wearable example of 19th-century French craftsmanship—elegant, ornate, and steeped in regional history.
