About Antique & Vintage Engagement Rings

An antique engagement ring is truly one of a kind. Every ring in this collection was made by hand, from the early 18th century to the Art Deco years, and its diamonds were cut by eye, long before modern mining and machine cutting. Each one has already survived centuries, and it is ready for the next chapter of its story.

Find your era

Georgian (1714–1837): glowing rose cut and table cut diamonds set in silver over gold, in floral clusters, bows and hearts made to sparkle by candlelight.

Victorian (1837–1901): old mine cut diamonds, coloured clusters of sapphire, ruby and emerald, and snake rings for eternal love. Queen Victoria's own engagement ring was a serpent.

Edwardian and Belle Époque (1901–1915): delicate platinum lacework, old European cut diamonds and pearls.

Art Deco (1920s–30s): crisp geometric platinum settings with emeralds, sapphires and bold diamonds.

Questions we're often asked

Are antique engagement rings ethical? Absolutely. They use no newly mined gold or diamonds, and because our diamonds were cut long before modern conflict mining, they are conflict free. Choosing antique is the most sustainable way to buy a diamond ring.

Antique natural diamonds or lab-grown diamonds? Lab-grown diamonds are produced industrially, mostly in China and India, using large amounts of energy, and their resale value has fallen sharply as production has grown. An antique diamond is natural, hand-cut, conflict free and completely unique, with a history no factory can recreate, and antique diamonds have a long record of holding their value.

Can an antique engagement ring be resized? Most can, by our specialist bench jeweller, who is experienced with old settings. Very early rings, made before the 17th century, need more caution, and we'll always advise you honestly on each one.

Are antique diamonds graded? Formal grading means removing a stone from its setting, which risks damaging an antique ring, so instead we describe the cut, approximate carat weight and character of every diamond. Old cut diamonds are prized for their soft, romantic sparkle rather than modern grades.

Can I wear an antique ring every day? Yes. These rings have already stood the test of time, and with a little care they will last for centuries more. We check every setting before a ring leaves us. For everyday comfort, choose a ring with a low, flat setting that won't catch on clothing, and keep foiled Georgian rings away from water.
