A rare and striking late Georgian gold cluster ring, set with a magnificent natural emerald at its centre, dating to circa 1820 and made in England. The round emerald, weighing approximately 2.1 carats, is collet set and surrounded by a finely balanced halo of twelve bright old-cut diamonds, creating a classic and highly desirable late-Georgian cluster form.Unusually for the period, both the emerald and the surrounding diamonds are set in open-backed cut-down collets. This construction enables the stones to glisten in exceptional condition over 200 years later, avoiding the darkening and dirt build-up often seen in foiled, closed-back settings of Georgian jewels. As a result, the ring remains vibrant and wearable today, and would make an excellent antique emerald engagement ring.The emerald, likely of Colombian origin, displays natural inclusions consistent with stones of this age, while retaining strong colour and presence.
