    • A gorgeous antique sapphire and rose cut diamond cluster ring. This usual example is made in Georgian style, however would have actually been made in Holland in the first half of the 20th century. The Netherlands produced expertly crafted Georgian-inspired jewellery right up until the mid-20th century.

The bezel is set with a larger central old cut blue sapphire in a gold rubover and cut down setting, following closely traditional Georgian gemstone setting techniques. It is bordered by a halo of 10 rose cut diamonds in silver settings which are further surrounded by 14 round cut sapphires. The triangular facets of rose cut diamonds were preferred in the Georgian era as they allowed the stones to glisten more beautifully in candlelight. All the stones are in open-backed settings which explains why they all still they glisten so marvellously as they can be easily cleaned unlike the closed-back and foiled settings of the Georgian period which are prone to dirt building up behind the stone and the foil darkening which can cause the stones to appear dull.

The cluster head adjoins to an intricately pierced scrollwork gallery with floral gold motifs on the trifurcated shoulders leading to a band features a Rococo style pattern. The ring weighs 6.58 grams and is crafted in 18K gold. The bezel measures 20mm x 18mm. The ring remains in exceptional condition.
