An unusual carnelian seal ring engraved with a heraldic coat of arms style motif, circa 1780.
The ring probably started life as a desk seal or fob seal, and was later converted into a ring. The carved carnelian is bezel set in a smooth, octagonal frame which is attached to a gold hoop of a circular cross section.

The ring weighs 5.68 grams, it is unmarked but tests as 14K gold. The octagonal bezel measures 19mm x 16mm, the stone protrudes 4mm from the finger.
