    • A small French Art Nouveau medal pendant, made in Paris around 1900 and crafted in 18K gold. The obverse is signed Tairac and shows a finely modelled female profile wearing a laurel wreath, representing La France — the allegorical embodiment of the French nation. Rather than a portrait of a specific woman, she stands for France itself: dignity, civic virtue, cultural refinement, patriotism and national pride. The laurel wreath is particularly important, traditionally associated with glory, achievement, victory and national prestige.

The medal was made and retailed by Maison Saudinos-Ritouret, a Parisian firm known for religious and commemorative medals. Tairac’s work has the crisp, sculptural quality associated with French medallic jewellery of the Belle Époque, with careful modelling to the face, hair and wreath. The reverse is plain and smooth, allowing the relief portrait to remain the focus.

The pendant is struck with the French eagle-head hallmark for 18K gold. It measures approximately 2cm in diameter and weighs 3.1g. Condition is very good, with light surface wear consistent with age; the portrait remains well defined, the signature is legible, and the suspension loop is secure.

A refined French Art Nouveau 18K gold medal pendant, combining classical national symbolism with the clean elegance of early 20th-century Parisian medal work.
