A French Art Nouveau ring of about 1900 in 18K gold, engraved with a woman's profile, her hair flowing around the band.The serene face is framed by long, curling hair and daisy-like flowers, classic motifs of the movement. The hair sweeps right around the shank, and every detail is crisply hand-engraved with the soft matt texture of French goldwork of the time.It closely recalls the work of the sculptor-jeweller Albert Marionnet, who showed very similar rings at the Paris Salons of 1900 and 1901, and the elongated muses of Alphonse Mucha. Though unsigned, it carries a French 18K gold mark and the stamp 'Déposé', meaning a registered design.Substantial yet comfortable: a ring for a lover of the Belle Époque.Details: c.1900; France; 18K gold, French mark and 'Déposé'; front 18mm north to south, 3mm at the back; UK N, US 6¾; 10.00g.Condition: Excellent.
