    • A superb antique diamond pendant and brooch, made in Germany and dating from the 19th century or earlier. Despite its impressive age, the pendant remains in remarkable condition, and is an stunning example of 19th century craftsmanship.

The cluster features a central pear-shaped rose cut diamond which weighs approximately 1.5 carats and has been graded as a 'fancy light yellow' stone. It is bordered by cluster of smaller rose cut diamonds, all in foiled, rubover silver settings typical of the period. Surrounding the pear shaped central diamond in each cardinal direction are four slightly smaller ‘fancy light yellow’ rose cut diamonds. The spaces in between are intricately decorated with gold scrollwork, coronet motifs and even smaller rose cut diamonds of varying sizes.

The elegant drop shape exemplifies the predominant form worn during the period, with areas of both sectioned and interlinked components designed to move, swish and glisten more beautifully in candlelight. It also accommodated the 19th century preference for low necklines, leaving a visual gap to be filled by a statement pendant.

The pendant is crafted in solid 14K yellow gold, the diamond settings topped with silver, as expected with the period. A brooch fitting was added to the pendant at a later date to make it multi-use. It measures 2.2cm at widest point and 4cm in length. The pendant/brooch hangs from a 14K white gold multi-strand anchor link chain which measures 15” and weighs 6.5g (total weight of necklace and pendant is 14.3g).

The diamond necklace is in excellent condition, all the stones are securely set and would make a stellar addition for any serious collector.
