    • A rare and highly accomplished Art Nouveau pendant, crafted in high-karat gold and decorated with delicate translucent enamel, made in Barcelona circa 1920 by the esteemed firm Masriera y Carreras. The design centres on a softly modelled female figure emerging through stylised thistle leaves, rendered in flowing, naturalistic lines characteristic of the Spanish Modernisme movement. The enamel palette of soft pinks and greens is well preserved, providing gentle contrast against the warm tone of the gold.

The pendant is executed in solid gold testing slightly above 18K, likely in the region of 19–21K, and bears Spanish hallmarks along with the maker’s mark ‘Masriera y Carreras’, with ‘4CO’ within a hexagon above a ‘B’, indicating manufacture in Barcelona. The pierced reverse and refined enamel work reflect the firm’s short but important Art Nouveau output during the years immediately following the merger of the Masriera and Carreras workshops. In 1915, the two giants of Barcelona jewellery, Masriera and Carreras, merged and by 1915 the firm was producing fine enamelled jewels in distinctive Spanish Art Nouveau-style under the new name.

At the turn of the 20th century, Barcelona was the epicentre of Modernisme, Spain’s interpretation of Art Nouveau, favouring organic forms, female figures and richly coloured enamel. Masriera y Carreras produced jewellery in this style for only a brief period between approximately 1915 and 1920, making surviving examples notably scarce. Their work from this era is widely regarded as among the finest Art Nouveau jewellery produced in Europe.

The pendant measures approximately 4 × 3.7cm and weighs exactly 17 grams on the dot. Condition is excellent, with crisp detail to the modelling and no losses to the enamel. A rare and refined example of Spanish Art Nouveau jewellery from one of the country’s most important historic makers.
