A substantial Austrian Art Deco platinum and Colombian emerald solitaire ring, made in Vienna circa 1935. The ring is set with a certified natural Colombian emerald, mounted east–west in a smooth, sculptural platinum signet-style setting.The design is strikingly restrained for the period, with a broad polished platinum band rising into a rounded bezel that holds the emerald low and securely across the finger. This east–west orientation gives the ring a particularly modern profile, while the weight and clean geometry are very much in keeping with interwar Art Deco jewellery in Vienna specifically, where architectural simplicity and statement gemstones were often favoured over bolder forms.At the centre is a 3.2ct natural Colombian emerald, accompanied by a full certificate from GCS London stating Colombian origin with minor oil. The stone has a soft light green hue and unusually good transparency for an emerald of this size, with only minor natural inclusions visible. It is an elegant, luminous stone rather than a dark emerald, giving the ring a refined and very wearable presence.The mount is made in 950 platinum and bears the Austrian platinum hallmark: a small moth mark with the letter W for Vienna, a control mark introduced in 1923. This securely places the ring in Vienna, circa 1935. It is also stamped 950 for platinum and carries the maker’s mark I.W / V.W. A later French mascaron / mask mark for platinum is also present, indicating that the ring subsequently entered the French market.The ring weighs an impressive 15.00g, giving it a particularly substantial feel on the hand. The emerald measures approximately 3.2ct and is set horizontally within the smooth platinum bezel. Condition is very good, with surface wear to the platinum in keeping with age and use.
