This gorgeous ring dates to the early 19th century (hallmarks for Paris, 1819-1838) and is crafted in 18K gold. In the centre of an elongated hexagonal onyx plaque rests a small cluster of colourful opal cabochons and rose cut diamonds and rubover and cut down settings. The ring originally started life as a brooch and was probably converted into a ring during the early 20th century. The bezel is surrounded by a lovely floral scrollwork border.

The ring is in wearable condition, although there are some condition flaws which are reflected in the price. There are three surface scratches to the onyx, and the onyx plaque has slightly warped out of the border (visible on penultimate photo), although the panel is still very much secure in the setting and can be fixed by a jeweller. There is also some discolouration to the gold bezel and a solder scar on the underside of the bezel from the conversion.
The bezel carries a small French “tête de belier” hallmark on the front which indicates 18K gold, made in Paris between 1819 and 1838.
