    • A superb vintage carved lapis lazuli scarab beetle ring. The ring is stamped with various hallmarks in Arabic, to indicate that it was made from 18K gold in Egypt in the year 1986.

The carved lapis lazuli scarab is inspired by those seen in museum collections which date from the ‘Late Period ‘of the Pharaonic Empire (664-332 BC). The underside of the scarab is engraved with various hieroglyphs. The lapis lazuli gemstone is a lovely specimen which displays a gorgeous blue hues with pyrite specks featured throughout. The scarab is mounted in a swivel gold mount of 18K gold, in keeping with the design of Ancient Egyptian amulet rings.

In ancient Egypt the scarab was a symbol of immortality, resurrection, transformation and protection. They are amongst the most popular and most numerous of all Ancient Egyptian artefacts and were especially employed in the funerary context. These scarabs, carved from steatite, ceramics and precious gemstones have been collected for centuries and were particularly prized and sought after in the 19th and early 20th centuries, with a strong revival of Egyptomania in the 1920’s following archaeological progress and the discovery of Tutankhamen’s tomb.

UK ring size L, US size 5.75

      The ring weighs 4 grams. The scarab measures 11mm x 8mm x 8mm.
