    • A very pretty antique synthetic ruby and diamond cluster ring dating to the Edwardian era, circa 1900.

The ruby is set in an open-back mount, and is of a vibrant pinkish hue, a tone that was much favoured during the early 20th century period. The ruby weighs approximately 1.62ct and is surrounded by a sea of rose cut diamonds. The triangular facets of rose cuts were very popular during the 18th and 19th centuries as they glistened more beautifully in candlelight than any other cut. All of the stones are all in open-backed settings, allowing light to pass through the stones as well as making it an easy ring to clean! The underside of the bezel features a pierced gallery with crescent motifs, which leads to a smooth, grooved band. The ring is crafted in 14K gold and carries Dutch hallmarks.

UK size O, US size 7.5

Synthetic rubies were first invented in the early 1800’s but the process was refined around the year 1900 and they enjoyed a burst of popularity in the early part of the 20th century.

The ring weighs 2.97 grams. The bezel measures 14mm x 11mm, the rose cuts 2mm in diameter and the central pearl measuring 6mm in diameter.
