    • This beautiful micromosaic dates to the late-19th century, circa 1870. Wearing micromosaic jewellery became popular during the Grand Tour period where members of wealthy, aristocratic families would travel across Europe, taking in the sights and cultures of different countries.

Italian glassmakers and craftsmen would make intricate micromosaic souvenirs depicting famous Italian landmarks to sell to these visitors. These micromosaics were made from thousands of tiny pieces of vitreous glass known as tesserae, and carefully and meticulously arranged by hand to form the desired image.

The wealthiest of these tourists would commission their own mosaics, with animals and famous works of art being their favourite subjects. The present micromosaic depicts the Florentine red fleur (also known as the Fleur-de-lys Firenze and Giglio of Florence), which is depicted on coat of arms of Florence with a red lotus flower and white background.

The micromosaic is bezel set in an .800 continental silver frame with granulated beads which adjoins an 18K gold band. The ring weighs 2.29 grams. The bezel measures 15mm x 12mm and the band measures 2mm across.
