    • An unusual and beautifully preserved antique French citrine intaglio pendant necklace, crafted in 18K gold and dating to around 1880. The pendant is carved with an intricately detailed profile of a Roman god or centurion; likely Mars, the Roman god of war - wearing a crested helmet and ornate armour.

The image is reverse-engraved into a thick plaque of pale yellow citrine, using a technique where the design is etched into the back of the gemstone to be viewed through its polished surface - a style known as "intaglio à fond."

The pendant is set in a clean rectangular gold frame and suspended from a later 18K gold chain measuring 19 inches. The pendant itself bears the French eagle’s head hallmark, used in Paris between 1838–1919, confirming the gold purity as 18K.

The citrine measures 28mm x 21mm, offering a substantial and elegant presence on the neckline. The combined necklace weighs 11g.
