    • This lovely antique rose cut diamond ring was made in England and dates from the mid-18th century. A fine example of Georgian period jewellery, this three stone diamond ring is crafted in 18K gold with a silver bezel and displays beautiful handmade craftsmanship. The central rose cut diamonds is highly domed, bright and beautifully cut. They are all set in closed-back and foiled silver settings. The triangular facets of these ‘rose cuts’ were very popular during the Georgian period as they glistened more beautifully in candlelight than any other cut. Underneath each of the diamonds is a thin layer of foil; this was the most popular method of gem setting in the Georgian period as it added luminosity and made the stones appear to glow from within.

This ring exhibits many of the typical features of 18th century European rings; the convex underside of the bezel is engraved with rays which emanate from the centre, the forked shoulders are set with rose cut diamonds, and there is a distinct c-curl motif where the shoulders meet the head.

The ring is in great condition despite being over 250 years old. Under loupe magnification, there are some faint age-related abrasions to the gem facet junctions which is expected with jewels of this age. As the stones are set with foil-backed settings, you should limit exposure to water when wearing this jewel, as it might make the foil darken and cause the stones to appear dull.

      UK size K 1/2, US size K 5.5

The ring weighs 2.15 grams, the silver bezel measures 17mm across. The central rose cut diamond measures 6.5mm x 6mm x 3mm, whilst the smaller diamonds measure 3mm x 2mm x 1mm. The ring is unmarked but tests as 18K gold.
