A rare and striking late Georgian gold cluster ring, dating to circa 1820 and made in England. It is set with a magnificent natural Colombian emerald at its centre, round cut and weighing 2.2 carats. It is collet set and surrounded by a finely balanced halo of twelve bright old-cut diamonds, creating a classic and highly desirable late-Georgian cluster form. The emerald has been analysed by GCS gem lab in London and the ring will be accompanied by the full gemmological report.Unusually for the period, both the emerald and the surrounding diamonds are set in open-backed cut-down collets. This construction enables the stones to glisten in exceptional condition over 200 years later, avoiding the darkening and dirt build-up often seen in foiled, closed-back settings of Georgian jewels. As a result, the ring remains vibrant and wearable today, and would make an excellent antique emerald engagement ring. The emerald of Colombian origin, likely from the Muzo mines, displays natural inclusions consistent with stones of this age, while retaining strong colour and presence. It has a moderate amount of oil, as is expected with emeralds, applied as a traditional measure to preserve the stone’s stability; this treatment helps protect against dehydration and visual disturbance over time while maintaining the integrity of its natural internal structure. The diamonds are lively and well matched, with an estimated total diamond weight of approximately 1.5 carats. Overall condition is remarkably good for a ring of this age.The ring is crafted in solid 9K gold, with silver-topped gold used for the diamond cut down collet settings; a standard gold fineness and diagnostic construction for English jewellery of the Georgian period. It also bears later French import marks, including the owl and swan, applied when the ring was subsequently brought into or sold in France. The ring weighs 5.11 grams and is a UK size N (US size 6.5). The emerald measures approximately 10.3 × 10.3 × 3.5mm, with the surrounding diamonds measuring approximately 3 × 3 × 2mm each.A rare survivor of the Georgian era; elegant, wearable, and quietly exceptional.
