An early Victorian signet ring, crafted in 15K gold and dating from around 1850. The rectangular layered agate intaglio is carefully engraved with the image of a dog, symbolising loyalty and guardianship. The stone’s natural brown and white banding provides a striking contrast, enhancing the depth of the carving. The gold mount features grooved shoulders, a classic design element of the period, tapering elegantly into the shank. The intaglio measures 9mm by 6mm with a depth of 3mm.Weighing 3.48 grams, the ring is a UK size Q½ (US 8.25). Unmarked but testing as 15K gold, it remains in excellent condition, with the intaglio and setting both extremely well-preserved despite its significant age. A superb example of English mid-19th-century craftsmanship.
