    • A classic and highly wearable example of British Arts & Crafts design, this pendant necklace dates to around 1905 and is in the style of celebrated firm Murrle Bennett & Co. Crafted in 9ct yellow gold, the pendant features a large oval matrix turquoise in a distinctive openwork setting inspired by Celtic and organic forms, with a smaller turquoise drop suspended below and two natural seed pearls accenting the vertical axis.

The pendant measures 4.5 × 2.5cm, suspended from its original fine-link 9ct gold chain (59cm / 23") with an early dog clip clasp. Both the pendant and the chain bear 9ct hallmarks, the former in the typical open-backed mount seen in many Murrle Bennett pieces.

Murrle Bennett & Co. was founded in London in 1896 by German-born Ernst Murrle and Englishman J.B. Bennett. The firm became one of the most influential jewellers of the English Arts & Crafts period, known for affordable yet artistically refined designs often retailed by Liberty & Co. in London. The pendant’s sinuous lines and organic abstraction recall the work of Archibald Knox, who designed for both Liberty and Murrle Bennett during this period. While unsigned, the design is consistent with documented pieces from the firm.

Matrix turquoise, with its dark veining, was especially popular in the early 20th century and appears frequently in Murrle Bennett's output, often paired with seed pearls and open goldwork motifs.

      Measurements:
      • Pendant: 4.5cm × 2.5cm
      • Turquoise (main): approx. 1.8cm × 1.2cm
      • Chain: 59cm / 23”
      • Weight: 10.3g
      • Hallmarked 9ct on both pendant and chain

      Condition:
Excellent antique condition with no notable damage or repairs. The turquoise stones are securely set and show natural matrix patterns. Chain and clasp function securely.
