This lovely antique French trilogy paste ring dates to the first half of the 19th century and is crafted in 18K yellow gold with a silver bezel. Three round faceted white ‘pastes’ are set in rub over crimpled collet silver settings, typical of the Georgian era. Paste jewellery is made from a special type of flint glass that was invented in France in 1724 by Georges Frederic Stras and was used to imitate a number of gemstones. It was very popular in the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian periods.
The band is crafted in 18K gold and is stamped with French ‘tête d’aigle’ (eagle head) control mark for Paris. The outer shank is also stamped with a makers lozenge mark (CM with crescent moon).
UK size P, US size 7.5
The ring weighs 3.79 grams, the silver set bezel measures 17mm by 5mm on its longest axes. The central paste has a diameter of 5mm, whilst the smaller pastes are 4mm across.
