    • 15th-16th Century Safavid Dynasty Cast Silver Islamic Ring

This is a very rare example of an early Safavid zoomorphic ring. The inverted cone shaped bezel is cast with the shank in one piece, the shoulders are decorated with stylised dragon heads, the mouths of which are added through chased punches. The lowest point of the shank is accented with a stylised casting sprue of diamond shape.

For an almost identical referenced example see item 76 in ‘Islamic Rings and Gems: the Benjamin Zucker Collection’ (1987) and item M.73.5.336 in the Nasli Heermaneck Collection of the LACMA Museum. Also see items 1866,0618.1 and AF.2470 in the British Museum for similar conical Safavid rings.
