    • A rare and exceptional Victorian ladybird ring, crafted in France around 1880. This highly unusual piece features a meticulously detailed ladybird, set with a combination of opals, rose-cut diamonds, and table-cut garnets, creating a striking contrast of colour and texture.

Ladybirds were considered symbols of good fortune and protection in the Victorian period, often associated with love and prosperity. The fascination with insects and nature was a key theme in 19th-century jewellery, reflecting the influence of the Romantic and Naturalistic movements, which celebrated the beauty of the natural world in wearable art. However with that being said, this is the very first example we have seen of a ladybird used in jewellery of this period - a true rarity!

The goldwork is particularly intricate, with finely applied gold leaves on the shoulders, adding to the organic charm of the piece.

The ring tests as 18K gold and weighs 3.56 grams. The ladybird measures 9 x 7 x 5 mm, creating a distinctive presence on the finger. A UK size M½ (US size 6.5), it is easily resizable.

A remarkable and rare example of Victorian insect jewellery.
