A striking Art Deco opal and diamond cluster ring dating to the 1920s–30s, made in Italy and crafted in platinum and 18K gold. The ring is centred with a large circular opal doublet cabochon displaying vivid play-of-colour with neon greens, electric blues, fiery oranges, and flashes of red across the surface. Surrounding the opal is a halo of old mine cut diamonds, adding lively scintillation and contrast to the saturated colour of the centre stone.Delicate chased floral motifs to the gallery reflect the lingering influence of late Art Nouveau craftsmanship within early Art Deco design. The diamonds are open-backed, allowing light to pass freely through the stones while also facilitating cleaning. The ring bears a French mascaron mark for platinum alongside the French owl import mark for 18K gold, in addition to Italian marks including “750” and a double-headed eagle control mark, indicating international movement through the European luxury jewellery trade during the early 20th century. The opal measures approximately 10mm in diameter with a depth of 4mm. Ring size K 1/2 (UK) / 5.5 (US). Weight: 6.1 grams.Condition is very good overall, with strong colour play to the opal doublet and lively antique diamonds throughout. Upon close inspection, there is some crazing to the bottom slice of opal, which are common natural inclusions for opal - this does not impact stability or wear, the stone is very secure in its setting. A particularly wearable and visually dramatic Art Deco opal ring.
