    • A superb Georgian-era gentleman’s signet ring, dating from around 1830. At its centre sits an octagonal flat-cut carnelian, bezel-set within a hollow 9K gold mount—a construction method typical of the period.

Signet rings of this kind were traditionally engraved with a coat of arms or family crest and used to seal letters and legal documents. Remarkably, this carnelian has survived nearly 200 years without an engraving, making it a rare example of an untouched Georgian signet ring.

The exterior features intricate repoussé floral work, a technique in which gold is hammered from the reverse side to create a design in low relief. The ring’s broad shoulders taper toward the back, where a French control mark confirms its status as imported 9K gold.

      • Carnelian: 12mm x 11mm
      • Ring size: UK Z / US 12.5 (a notably large size)
      • Weight: 7.68 grams
      • Gold purity: 9K, with French import mark

Despite its age, this ring remains in good and very wearable condition, a testament to its fine craftsmanship. A striking and unusually preserved piece of early 19th-century jewellery.
