    • A sublime hard-to-find antique French flower cluster ring dating to the very early 19th century, circa 1800-1820. A superb example of fine Georgian period jewellery, this ring was crafted in 18K gold and displays exceptional craftsmanship. The flower cluster is composed of several pink rubies spaced around six rose cut rock crystal stones, each in closed-back and cut-down collet settings.

The shoulders are designed with typically French openwork Rococo foliate motifs, leading to a fluted shank. As expected, the back of the bezel takes the form of a smooth dome, a characteristic of French rings of the 18th to early 19th century. This elegant ring sits fairly flat on the finger to allow for frequent wear and remains in excellent condition despite its significant age.

UK size U, US size 10, 4.38g gold, tests as 18K gold. The cluster head measures 15mm in diameter, each rose cut rock crystal measures approx. 6mm x 4mm, whilst the rubies measure 2mm across.

The floral cluster motif has been popular in jewellery across Europe for centuries. See this very similar brooch dating from the 16th to 17th century which was found in the notorious Cheapside Hoard in London, the greatest single collection of Elizabethan and Stuart jewellery in the  world: https://collections.museumoflondon.org.uk/online/object/119557.html
