    • An utterly gorgeous antique English emerald and diamond cluster ring, circa 1830. This late Georgian period ring is intricately crafted in 18K gold. This love token is known as a ‘pansy’ ring, which comes from the French word ‘pense’ meaning ‘to think’, more specifically referring to the phrase ‘think of me’. These types of rings were originally given as sentimental gifts and romantic keepsakes.

If you look closely at the back of this ring, there is a space for what was once a compartment, now empty, where once upon a time, a woman would have stored the hair of her beloved behind a glass cover.

The flower cluster is composed of a central old cit diamond of a slightly yellow hue, surrounded by a halo of five bright green cushion cut emeralds.

The shoulders are designed with typically Georgian openwork Rococo floral motifs, leading to a fluted shank.

      UK size I, US size 4 1/2

The ring weighs a total of 2g. The round cluster head measures 10mm in diameter, and the band measures 2mm across at the back of the ring.

Although unmarked, the workmanship is unquestionably British and tests as 18K gold; prior to the standardisation of the gold hallmarking system in 1848, the vast majority of British-made jewellery were unmarked. The stones are all natural earth-mined.

Despite it’s impressive age, the ring is in excellent and completely unaltered condition.
