    • A striking vintage French ring, dating from around 1940–1950, set with a vivid synthetic sapphire created using the Verneuil method. The oval sapphire is open-backed, with perfect clarity and an intense royal blue hue. Estimated at approximately 1.5 carats, this lab-grown stone was produced using the flame fusion technique developed in 1909 by Parisian chemist Auguste Verneuil. When first introduced, these synthetic sapphires were such a novelty that they often sold for more than natural stones.

The ring is crafted in 18K gold and marked with the French ‘owl’ control mark on the band, confirming its fineness. The mount is finished with fine etched detailing around the bezel and elegant trifurcating shoulders that flow into a quasi-double band.

The bezel measures 15 x 11 mm. The ring weighs 3.66 grams and is a UK size N (US size 6.75).

In excellent overall condition, this is a beautifully designed and historically fascinating French jewel from the post-war era.
