    • A gorgeous antique emerald and diamond ring dating to the 19th century. The central prong-set 0.3ct pear cut natural emerald displays a gorgeous lush green hue and great saturation. It is surrounded by a halo of rose cut diamonds in closed-back and foiled rubover settings. The triangular facets of rose cuts were very popular during the Georgian and Victorian periods as they glistened more beautifully in candlelight than any other cut.

The heart shaped bezel is attached to scrolled openwork shoulders which lead to a D-shaped band. Upon close inspection, there is some evidence of historic alterations to the ring. The ring is in overall good condition despite its age, all the stones are securely set and the ring sits fairly flat on the finger to allow for frequent and comfortable wear.

The ring weighs 4.48 grams and tests as 18K gold. The outer band is stamped with two hallmarks, one being a French ‘ET’ mark (étrangère) to indicate it being foreign work imported into Paris. The second mark is partially rubbed off, but would probably be a mark from the country of origin indicating its fineness of 18K. The heart shaped bezel measures 18mm x 12mm. The emerald has a weight of 0.3cts and the rose cut diamonds have an approximate total weight of 1.4cts.

      UK size O 1/2, US size 7.25

A beauty from a bygone era, this unique 19th century ring would make a characterful engagement ring or a unique addition to a collector’s jewel box.
