These distinctive crosses were traditionally produced in regions such as Provence, Arles, and the Southern Alps, though the vast majority surviving today are later 19th-century examples set with rose cut diamonds. This piece is notably earlier, distinguished by its use of table cut diamonds; a feature rarely encountered.The cross is set throughout with finely proportioned table cut diamonds, mounted in silver collets backed with reflective silver foil. This traditional technique produces a uniquely soft yet lively luminosity, characteristic of early diamond jewellery. The stones are arranged in the classic Jeanette cross formation, with gently rounded terminals and a strong, balanced silhouette that remains strikingly wearable.The construction follows the established 18th-century method of silver on gold; the diamond settings are executed in silver to enhance brilliance, while the reverse, frame, suspension loop, and bail are formed in rich 18K gold.
