A distinctive late 20th-century Boucheron Paris sapphire ring, crafted in 18K yellow gold and set with an oval-cut sapphire in an unusual suspended or “floating” mount. Rather than enclosing the stone in a conventional bezel or claw setting, the sapphire is held between two broad, polished shoulders, leaving much of the pavilion visible in profile. This gives the ring a striking architectural quality, allowing the full depth and silhouette of the stone to be seen from the side.The design is typical of Boucheron’s more sculptural late 20th-century jewellery, where clean gold forms were often used to create bold, minimal settings around precious coloured gemstones.The central stone is an oval-cut sapphire of approximately 2.8 carats, showing a pale blue to lilac-blue tone, closer to a soft cornflower hue. Its lighter, slightly violet colour works particularly well against the richness of the yellow gold, giving the ring a cooler, more contemporary character.The ring is signed Boucheron and numbered P 51519, with OR 750 for 18K gold and a French eagle-head hallmark. A closely related Boucheron sapphire ring appeared at Christie’s, Joaillerie Paris, lot 172, earlier this summer (see final photo for reference).The ring weighs approximately 9.11g, giving it a substantial feel on the hand, and is a UK size O½ / US 7.5. Condition is very good overall, with light surface wear to the gold consistent with age and use.
