    • This ring is a beautiful example of early 19th century French regional jewellery. It was probably made in the region of Anjou and the Loire Valley, circa 1830.

Many of the provinces of France are particularly known for their distinctive enamel work. Things like floral patterns on clasps are regularly found in the regions of Normandy and Auvergne, whilst Limoges typically produces enamelled items with religious motifs or portraits. The black and white enamel style of this particular ring is closely related to examples found in the region of Anjou and the Loire Valley in North-West France.

The ring carries a French ‘tête de bélier’ (ram head) control mark to indicate regional French 18K gold, made between the years 1819 and 1838. The makers mark is also present.

UK size Q, US size 8.

The ring weighs 2.93 grams. The band measures 3mm across at the back, and the rectangular bezel measures 8mm x 7mm. The ring is in great condition despite being about 200 years old. It has never been resized and there are only some minor losses to the white enamel. A truly special find!
