    • A substantial French Art Nouveau medal pendant, made in Paris c.1910 and crafted in 18K gold.

The obverse is signed by the esteemed engraver and medalist ‘Lozane’ and depicts a classical female profile wearing a laurel wreath, representing La France; an allegorical embodiment of the French nation. Rather than a specific goddess, she belongs to the French medallic tradition of personifying national ideals through an idealised female figure: dignity, civic virtue and patriotic aspiration.

The pendant was made and retailed by Maison Saudinos-Ritouret, and is struck with the French eagle-head hallmark for 18K gold, together with a maker’s mark and the signature of the engraver, Lozane.

The reverse is beautifully finished with an engraved starburst and leafy spray, leaving part of the surface plain and suitable for a personal inscription.

The pendant measures approximately 2.7cm in diameter and weighs 8.92g, a particularly good weight for its size.

Condition is very good, with light surface wear consistent with age; the portrait relief remains crisp, the reverse engraving is sharp, and the suspension loop is secure.

A fine French Art Nouveau 18K gold medal pendant, combining Belle Époque national allegory, strong medallic modelling and a beautifully engraved reverse.
