    • A pair of antique Portuguese ‘figa’ pendants, circa 1900, intricately carved from white and black mother of pearl and mounted in 14K gold. The figa, also known as mano figa or mano fico, is an ancient protective amulet in the form of a clenched hand with the thumb tucked between the index and middle fingers. Worn for centuries across various cultures, it is believed to ward off the evil eye, bring good fortune, and symbolize strength, fertility, and defiance against misfortune. The symbol traces its origins to ancient Etruscan Italy and has remained a powerful talisman throughout history.

The pendants feature a finely executed floral repoussé gold cap, cleverly contrasting the iridescent mother of pearl. Measuring approx 3 cm x 1 cm x 0.5 cm each, they have a combined weight of 8 grams. A small chip to the thumb of the black mother of pearl figa is present but not noticeable.

A striking and meaningful piece of protective jewellery, carrying a rich tradition of symbolism and craftsmanship.
