    • This rare piece was made in Schwäbisch Gmünd, and dates to circa 1800-1850. It is a fine and rare example of traditional, devotional jewellery of South Germany. The flat shank widens towards the bezel and is decorated with green and red pastes in fold over settings. The outermost pear-shaped red pastes are supported either side by a figure of the crucified Christ on a rayed background.

There are two other near identical examples of these rare Schwäbisch Gmünd devotional rings are in the Victoria & Albert Museum (Accession numbers: 900-1872 and 901-1872)

Hallmark on the outer band of the number 12 which indicates .750 silver (12/16 : 750 Silver - from German ‘lot’ system used in 18th and 19th Centuries). Unicorn head city mark of Schwäbisch Gmünd is also displayed.

      UK Size W 1/2, US 11 1/2, 4.93g Silver
