A striking antique Art Deco sapphire ring, circa 1920.
In the centre of the ring rests a gorgeous 6ct sapphire, oval in shape and cut ‘en-cabochon’. It displays a gorgeous velvety blue hue with fantastic clarity which contrasts against the 14K white gold signet mount beautifully. The sapphire is a synthetic lab-grown sapphire and during the period that this ring was made, these lab-grown sapphires were a new phenomenon and only recently made commercially available. Therefore this ring was somewhat of a novelty in its day, not to mention that in this period lab sapphires cost more than their mined counterparts. The solid white gold signet shaped mount is decorated with three small round cut diamonds on each shoulder, which lead to a smooth tapering shank.
UK size I 1/2, US size 4.5
The ring weighs 5.28g grams. The ring is unmarked but tests as 14K white gold. Sapphire measures 14mm x 8mm x 5mm.
