A vintage French gold and diamond band ring, dating to the second half of the 20th century and crafted in rich 18K gold. The design is deliberately minimalist yet sculptural, with a thick, top-heavy form that gives the ring real visual presence on the hand, tapering smoothly towards the back.At the centre sits a bright white Old European cut diamond of approximately 0.65 carats, bezel set into the gold and left open-backed to allow light to pass through the stone. The diamond is almost certainly earlier than the ring itself, likely repurposed from a late 19th or early 20th century jewel, a practice commonly seen in mid-20th century French goldsmithing. Its lively faceting contrasts beautifully with the clean, modern weight of the mount.The ring has a pleasing weight of 11 grams, which is very impressive relative to its size.
