    • A classic French serpent ring dating to the Belle Époque period, made by jewellers Gillio & Callarotti in Paris, circa 1910. The ring is formed as two entwined snakes, their bodies richly textured with engraved scale detail and their heads meeting at the centre in a balanced, sculptural composition typical of the period’s naturalistic jewellery.

Each snake’s head is set with a gemstone; one with a deep blue sapphire and the other with a bright white diamond, both approximately 3mm in diameter. Snake rings were particularly popular in France in the late 19th to early 20th century, worn both as sentimental jewels and as fashionable statements.

Crafted in solid 18K gold, the ring has a pleasing weight of 6.46 grams and retains excellent definition to the engraved surfaces. It is stamped with the French eagle’s head mark, indicating Parisian manufacture and 18K gold fineness, and bears a lozenge-shaped maker’s mark (G & C with fleur-de-lis) for Gillio & Callarotti. The ring remains in very good condition, with no issues to the setting or stones.

      Ring size UK M 1/2; US 6.5.
      Materials; 18K gold, sapphire, diamond.
      Weight; 6.46g.
      Origin; Paris, France.
      Date; circa 1910.
