    • A 19th century South Indian emerald ruby and white sapphire gold cluster ring, probably made in Hyderabad.

The high karat gold hexagonal shaped bezel is set with three gemstones in traditional closed-back and foiled kundan settings. A cabochon ruby and emerald are set on opposing sides, and the way in which these stones have been cut is in keeping with the Indian practise of preserving as much of the stone as possible, only the imperfections have been removed, leaving polished yet slightly uneven and naturalistic surfaces, more pebble than cabochon. In between the bright emerald and ruby rests a rose cut white sapphire of a triangular shape. The underside of the bezel takes the form of a smooth dome and the band is detailed with various grooves and ridges.

      UK size N 1/2/US size 7

The solid gold ring weighs 6.33 grams and is unmarked but tests as high karat gold (18K+), cabochon measure 7mm x 5mm and rose cut measures 5mm across. The hexagonal face measures 16 x 10mm and protrudes 5mm from the finger.
